I am so indignant to discover these finally comming to DVD!! I am ready for the cartoons & Enos!! I would also like to stare the TV specials for the Dukes all in one residence (E! Right Hollywood Legend, ET in TV Land, CMT Insider, CMT Insider SE, as well as the segments from TV Road Hump and Liars & Legends) . The TV specials would all fit on one disc, without commercials they are only around three and a half hours total.

Let’s be impartial….this movie is basically a “Boys Bear” action adventure straight out of the fertile imagination of a 16 year dilapidated English schoolboy….but, gee it’s so powerful fun to peek!!

According to producer Euan Lloyd, who had worked on the star spangled war film “The Guns Of Navarone” (penned by novelist Alistair McLean), Lloyd was seeking out a similar record featuring several strong male leads that he could turn into an international blockbuster. An acquaintance of Lloyd working in in Rhodesia in the mid 1960’s, met up with then unpublished novelist Daniel Carney, and heard about his manuscript concerning mercenaries seeking to rescue an imprisoned president from a military prison. Lloyd leapt at securing the rights for the intense manuscript, got Carney a publishing deal for his book, and space about getting the tale onto the cover.

( The name “the wild geese” is taken from a literary term applied to Irish mercenaries initially operating during the slack 17th century )

Lloyd secured his four strong male leads (Burton, Harris, Moore & Kruger) and the casting is as follows…Richard Burton plays ageing mercenary leader, Col. Alan Faulkner recruited by the unscrupulous, money hungry banker Sir Edward Matherson (Stewart Granger at his snide best) to rescue an imprisoned African leader, Julius Limbani (Winston Ntshona), from local terrorists. Limbani is a key figure in African politics and at stake are copper mine concessions worth millions. Burton recruits obsolete war buddy Rafer Janders (Richard Harris), pilot extraordinaire Shawn Fynn (Roger Moore) ex-South African mercenary Peter Coetzee (Hardy Kruger), and ‘tough as nails’ Regimental Sergeant Major Sandy Young (Jack Watson) and most of their extinct war comrades for one last crusade for truth, justice and a very vast paycheck!

The thought is simple enough…parachute 50 men in at night, capture Limbani from his captors, and rendevous for a rob up. However, events go horribly substandard and soon the mercenary group are running for their lives, outgunned and outmanned by the brutal, machete wielding Simba guards.

Carney’s fresh manuscript was loosely inspired by Colonel “Aroused Mike” Hoare’s mercenary crew “5 Commando”, and their fantastic adventures controlling tribal violence and rescuing Westerners in the Belgian Congo during the early 1960’s….(you can occupy Mike Hoare’s thrilling books fair here on Amazon.) …and Hoare actually consulted as the military/technical advisor for the film!. “The Wild Geese” never lets up once the action gets going and is beefy of gritty firefights and never say die heroics. Additionaly, the film is pudgy of witty dialogue, guaranteed to create you smirk, such as when RSM Sandy Young addresses the massed troops on the parade ground for the first time “Some of you know me already. Those of you who don’t are in for a grand colossal f**king surprise”. Or when the fiery Irish priest Father Geoghagen calls out to the mercenaries “Noble luck to you godless murderer’s”, to which Roger Moore drolly replies “That’s as provocative a benediction as I’ve ever heard”.

Finally, “The Wild Geese” is out on DVD in Status 1, with a remastered print in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, two accompanying featurettes on the making of the film, plus a documentary on producer Euan Lloyd. Another highlight is the audio commentary from producer Euan Lloyd, second unit director John Glen, journalist Jonathon Sothcott and “Wild Geese” lead actor Sir Roger Moore, and a newsreel from the current UK charity premiere. ( Although, it bugs me that this edition is released as a 30th Anniversary Edition, however the honest 30th Anniversary of the film is not until 2008! ) Never mind, “The Wild Geese” is highly recommended viewing!

The Wild Geese is an reliable war movie, with Burton, Moore and Harris at their best. It is area in the bush war of the seventies in the conventional Rhodesia in Southern Africa (NOT SOUTH AFRICA as the other reviewers idea - there is a sizable inequity. It’s like saying Mexico and the USA are the same plot!)

Anyway, it’s an interessting, action packed search for at the bush war in and the mercenaries alive to and a must have for any serious collector of classic movies.

As is the case with each and every one of my One Share reviews, I have to inaugurate by confessing a positive unwavering approval-factor of this series upright off the bat. For a property with the word “shonen” lawful there in its title, the demonstrate is surprisingly devoid of the usual formulaic clichés that bog down most entries into the genre. Rather than endless fighting in some mystical tournament, One Part has absolutely mastered the art of giving fighting fans what they want and blending it with a nice adventure-driven station with recent (and likable) characters to boot. Suffice to say, I was curved immediately.

Buy,Download, Or Stream One Piece: Season Two, Third Voyage! Click Here

That said, Season Two, Third Voyage contains episodes 79-91 of the ongoing saga across two discs. The packaging, as has been the case with all of the Location 1 releases thus far, consists of two thin packs within an blooming cardboard outer slipcase. Runtime comes in at 320 minutes and the note wears an appropriate if not slightly conservative TV 14 rating (due to a proper dose of cartoony violence rather than ghastly language, nudity, or gore) .

Language options are standard sub & dub, which means the viewer has the choice of the unusual Japanese dialog track (stereo) or an English dub (Dolby Digital 5.1) and the option of running English subtitles with either.

Buy,Download, Or Stream One Piece: Season Two, Third Voyage! Click Here

Special features consist of textless songs, Funimation trailers, and marathon play option (turns each disc into one continuous episode), and an English staff commentary over episode 87 (note: this last one is not located in the Special Features fraction but rather in the episode selection. It is very easy to miss!)

The One Allotment Season Two Third Voyage basically picks up where the Second Voyage left off in that the Strawhats remain on a mission to voice the Princess Vivi to her homeland of Alabasta. However, sheer survival is the more immediate goal of this chunk of episodes with Nami fighting an extremely high fever, which causes the crew to port at the cold island of Drum in search of medical serve.

Pursued by a metal-mouthed pirate king named Wapol and his goons (including the hilarious detachable-afro wielding Kuromarimo), there is no shortage of conflict for the big-hearted crew this time around.

Fans of the prove will likely brand this entire fragment of the saga as the introduction/ origin myth of the “only in Japan” adorable talking reindeer, Chopper. His segment is captivating if not a bit heavy on the dramatic side (prepare for a lot of character-crying) .

In all honesty, I cannot say that this has been my absolute paramount portion of the overall prose but it is an improvement to the last fragment (Season Two, Second Voyage) in my thought anyway. Honest like last time I divulge my gain disappointment comes from the fact that there isn’t a whole lot of oceanic pirating to characterize nor are our outrageous crew’s special powers utilized to quite the degree of awesomeness that fans have grown to inquire. Then again considering the unbelievable length of the demonstrate, I guess island side tangents are to be expected.

Of course this isn’t to say that there aren’t a right stream of near-invincible baddies to dispatch, damsels in afflict to rescue, or overjoyed ignorance displayed by the kindly captain, Monkey D. Luffy, the record unprejudiced seems to jaunt off on several sidetracks along the plot.

Hopefully by now fans have near to put a question to the fact that the indicate will destroy on a cliffhanger (which may or may not be considered a great thing to those of us forced to wait patiently for the next installment to come!)

Fans of the point to will continue to devour the new, washed-out visual style that has become One Piece’s staple over time. The sound work is region on in both language options with the English dub working honest about as well in every aspect as the modern Japanese track (especially the articulate of Kuromarimo which is impartial position on in the dub) .

At times it’s almost hard to enjoy that it has been exactly a decade since this collection debuted on television airwaves. While advances in animation process and technology are undisputable, the charm that made One Share a gem then is undoubtedly expose now.

In all a must-own collection for those of us who have been taking the voyage thus far (even if it isn’t the best mini legend arc per se’) . The special features are quite nice (the English staff commentary track actually contains the harshest language of the whole compilation acquire it or not) and the packaging maintains the safe sight and feel of its predecessors. My only complaint comes in the execute of the ending of episode 91 as its inconclusive nature has me anxiously awaiting the next One Part release. You would assume I would be ragged to this pattern by now…

A riddle: What has a blue nose, a pink top hat, antlers, is studying to be a doctor, and runs on Rumble Balls? Tony Tony Chopper, of course, and he looks to be the perfect ship’s doctor that Luffy is searching for, that is if Luffy and Sanji don’t cook him for dinner first! Having the powers of the Human Human Devil Fruit, Chopper can shapeshift from a reindeer to a variety of human-reindeer hybrids, including the fierce looking sasquatch originate that appears on the package. Most of the time, though, Chopper is a cute, round bodied creature about 3 feet ample.

After a difficult climb, Nami, Luffy, and Sanji are brought to the mountain top castle of Kureha, the only free doctor on Drum Island. Kureha looks and acts like a witch (she is over 100 years ragged and unruffled considers herself young) but she nurses Nami support to health, insisting that Nami end a few days until she recovers completely. Meanwhile, the pirate captain Wapol, who had previously encountered Luffy’s crew at sea, hears that Luffy and Co. have arrived at Drum Island and are defiantly holding out at Kureha’s castle. Obsessed with completing his control over Drum Island, Wapol and his crew storm the castle, but they bustle into Chopper, who displays his bizarre but awesome fighting abilities. After Wapol’s defeat, Chopper decides to join Luffy’s crew and the Going Merry heads for Alabasta, where Crocodile and the Baroque Works await. As they near Alabasta, the crew is visited by a seemingly trustworthy transvestite (Bon Clay) who entertains them with his ability to copy their appearances, not suspecting that this man is actually Mr. 2 of the Baroque Works. This incident has major implications later, especially for lady’s-man Sanji.

The war for Alabasta begins in the next 3 Voyages of One Allotment! Don’t miss it!

Much has been written of this movie’s origin. Briefly stated, the Marx Brothers decided to execute at least one more movie after their MGM career ended with “The Gargantuan Store.” It was a fortunate decision, and the result is a fast-paced spoof of the classic “Casablanca.” Regardless of advancing age, Groucho, Chico, and Harpo are savory to sight. The inspired lunacy of their early Paramount films is gone, but Groucho’s stinging one-liners and quick asides tranquil resonate with biting humor. Harpo’s sportive antics nicely retract this unusual comic’s “other-worldly” traits. Harpo’s “collapsing building” gag is laugh-out-loud humorous! Chico plays the usual amiable airhead who is as luminous (or boring) as he wants to be. Chico’s attempts to interrupt Groucho’s moveable tryst with the palatable Beatrice are hilarious and retract Groucho and Chico’s classic exchanges (e.g., the “Sanity Clause” routine) . Margaret Dumont is missing, but Lisette Verea plays Beatrice, a femme fatale in the Thelma Todd mode. Sig Ruman does well as a blustering Nazi witness. The climactic slump scene is amusingly frantic, even though drag scenes were done to death in classic comedies. Some of the Marx sparkle started to travel during their final years at MGM. This movie is a loyal worry to recapture the magic of their best work. There is a refreshing absence of overblown musical numbers. Chico plays the piano and Harpo plays the harp. That is piece of the Marx yarn, and hardly intrusive. Don’t inquire of another “Night at the Opera” or “Horse Feathers,” and you will be jubilant. ;-)

By 1946 the Marx Brothers considered themselves retired as a veil team–but brother Chico’s on-going financial difficulties coaxed them abet into the studio for a final film. The result is a film that will never compete with their sharp-edged comedies of the 1930s but which possesses grand charm nonetheless.

A NIGHT IN CASABLANCA finds Groucho employed as the manager of the Hotel Casablanca–where three previous managers have met sudden death at the hands of post-war Nazis in search of love hidden at the hotel during the war. Time, it seems, mellowed the brothers, and although they maintain their sparkle they accomplish without the manic edge that characterized their earlier films; the result is a great friendlier, cozier style of comedy that feels as comfortable your bedroom slippers.

All three brothers have titanic opportunity to shine, and the film includes its piece of memorable moments–perhaps most valuable the diminishing dancefloor and the hilarious suitcase packing scene. It all has big charm, and all the more welcome for following the several uninspired films the brothers made in the early 1940s. A fitting effect and fond farewell to one of Hollywood’s greatest comedy acts; recommended.

VeggieTales launched 10 years ago with this video, which includes two shorter segments. The first, “Tales from the Crisper,” teaches Jr. Asparagus that he has nothing to panic because “God is Bigger then the Boogie Man.” The second retells the fable of Daniel in the Lion’s Den with songs feature Larry as the hero and Archibald Asparagus as King Darius. (Mr. Nezzer hadn’t been created yet.) In between is the very first humorous song, “The Water Buffalo Song.”

Watching it again this weekend, I was struck by two things. First, how great fun this video is. With Jr. they perfectly captured a minute kid and his logic and created some truly comical moments with talk about the slime monster. Although the funniest moment belongs to Daniels chatter as he’s being carried to the lion’s den. The second is how far they and the technology have reach. By today’s standards, the animation is abominable. Their current projects with bigger budgets are powerful better looking. However, that doesn’t affect the fun at all. I almost guarantee that you’ll have one song or another stuck in your head after watching this.

If there’s a better method to impart kids Bible truths then this series, I definite don’t know what it is. They’re truly involving for the entire family. Heck, I consume them and I don’t even have kids.

High quality computer animation and Christian themes has made this one of our family’s accepted videos in only 3 short days! Bob (a tomato) and Larry (a cucumber) are vegetables that our three pre-school age children laugh and squawk along with as the characters interpret there’s no reason to be horrified of the shadowy because “God is bigger than the Boogie-man.” Larry also stars in the title role of “Daniel and the Lion’s Den,” a titanic legend told in a manner and fashion for young viewers to understand and recount to. The video closes out with a short scripture for young viewers which helps children learn biblical verse and how it can apply to their young experiences. As soon as other videos are released (currently only one other “Veggie Memoir” video is available out of a series of nine) we will hastily be adding them to our collection. A sure must for parents who dwelling high standards (quality and morally) for what their children behold if they must discover TV. We can’t say enough fine things about the video. Demolish

Anchor Bay’s DVD of TORSO is wonderful - the image is crisp, consuming, knowing and there is no artifacting whatsoever. The print is also UNCUT! For years the film was seen in the US only in an edited version with most of the gore and sex slice out. It’s immense to finally peek the entire uncut film with it’s current opening and the extra sex and gore bits….I worship the head crushing scene (albeit kind of spurious) plus there’s extra shots of the killer sawing up the bodies into miniature pieces. What more do you want? There’s the chilly looking hooded killer plus lots of stylistic giallo touches…this movie is better than ever especially in this impeccable presentation. It’s letterboxed and includes the fun US trailer-”Tor—so!” as well as the new euro-trailer. A few shots in the film are in italian with english-subtitles because either the english track was never recorded or it had been lost…but it’s not annoying at all and you unprejudiced can’t abet loving this disc…especially if you are into euro-sleaze! One of Anchor Bay’s best!

Following the execute of several classmates by a frenzied sex-killer, a group of female students retire to an isolated villa until police have apprehended a viable suspect. But the maniac is wise to their deception, and he/she follows them…

This stylish, lively giallo-thriller - the equal of anything directed by Dario Argento at the time - was co-written by obsolete scribe Ernesto Gastaldi and director Sergio Martino, the latter a journeyman technician whose commercial ethos catapulted him from one genre to another within the dictates of Italian well-liked cinema (cf. BLADE OF THE RIPPER, THE VIOLENT PROFESSIONALS, SEX WITH A SMILE, etc.) . Despite bland performances from an unremarkable cast (including Euro stalwarts Suzy Kendall [THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE], John Richardson [THE Hide OF SATAN] and Luc Merenda [THEY CALLED HIM AMEN]), and some splendid definite red herrings amongst the supporting players, TORSO is augmented by a number of beautifully crafted set-pieces (most notably the stalking of a young woman [Cristina Airoldi] through desolate marshland by the masked maniac), photographed with aesthetic visual flair by Martino’s regular DP Giancarlo Ferrando (THE CASE OF THE SCORPION’S TAIL) and edited to perfection by Eugenio Alabiso (MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD) .

The second half of the movie, during which Kendall becomes enmeshed in a nightmarish spot at a remote but picturesque country villa, is genuinely nerve-racking, staged with cat-and-mouse efficiency by Martino at his most inspired. Spiced with audience-pleasing elements of sex and violence which tested the limits of censorship in 1973, TORSO is a minor gem. Produced by Carlo Ponti, previously responsible for the likes of WAR AND PEACE (1956) and DOCTOR ZHIVAGO!

I understanding the recent “Poltergeist” an astounding film tubby of stout atmosphere, likeable characters, and nicely done frights. Remember the paranormal researcher pulling his face apart in the mirror? The crawling slab of steak loaded with maggots? The corpse filled pit in the backyard? The young son counting the seconds between booms of disclose and flashes of lightening? The recent “Poltergeist” had thrills aplenty. And then it all fell apart. Hollywood, in its inimitably greedy style, promptly laid the groundwork for a sequel. Why not? The suits knew the dupes would line up at the box office like favorable limited sheep, willing to shell out millions of dollars for what is essentially a rehash of the recent distress. Well, “Poltergeist II” is better than your average sequel to a atomize hit, but impartial barely. What will really feel like a stone in your shoe is the sequel to the sequel, the heap o’ screeching metal and flaming wreckage that is “Poltergeist III.” The final entry in the series is so unpleasant, so utterly devoid of any of the elements that fueled the success of the unique, that my DVD player loudly protested–with sounds I will not recreate here–my efforts to see it.

“Poltergeist II” reacquaints us with the hapless Freeling family several months after the nightmare depicted in the first film. Peaceful homeless after watching their tall, recent abode implode into thin air, Steve and Diane Freeling (Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams) along with their children Robby and Carol Anne (Oliver Robins and Heather O’Rourke), now live with Diane’s mother Jess far from the defective ghost and corpse filled suburbs. Steve now sells vacuum cleaners for a living instead of valid estate, and the couple spends most of their time fighting with the insurance company over compensation for the disappearing house. Grandma Jess likes the notion of the family staying with her even as she notices Carol Anne’s fantastic clairvoyant powers. When Grams dies in her sleep, the nightmare begins anew as the poltergeists from the first movie track down Carol Anne. The spirits gape to pick up a map to the “light” (don’t we all? ), and won’t rest until they acquire their design. Meanwhile, psychic investigator Tangina (Zelda Rubinstein) and an Indian shaman named Taylor (Will Sampson) investigate the space of the Freeling’s destroyed home. It turns out that a religious zealot named Kane brought a bunch of followers out to California in the 19th century and promptly killed them in the name of utopian glory. It is the ghosts of Kane and his followers who stare the attentions of Carol Anne, with Kane himself turning up in the flesh to torment the Freelings.

We should rightly classify “Poltergeist III” not as a fright film but as a difficulty story. On this outing, Carol Anne (once again played by the indomitable Heather O’Rourke) turns up in a Chicago high rise where she lives with her Uncle Bruce (Tom Skerritt), her Aunt Pat (Nancy Allen), and her unfriendly cousin Donna (Lara Flynn Boyle doing her best to gawk like Winona Ryder) . Zelda Rubinstein reprises her role as the psychic Tangina for a third time. Positive enough, unusual things commence happening when a nerdy school counselor hypnotizes Carol Anne and opens a doorway through which the brave Kane returns. That’s about all that happens in this schlockfest, although director Gary Sherman tricks up this installment with lots of dry ice and mirrors that provide diminutive in the method of chills or thrills. “Poltergeist III” is a cheap, cheesy movie that deserves the obscurity in which it currently resides.

Fans of the modern movie will luxuriate in the reappearance of Craig Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Oliver Robins, and Heather O’Rourke in the second entry. I always conception some of the charm of the novel came from the slightly bawdy antics and grand chemistry of this cast. Nelson and Williams in particular have tall presence onscreen, and truly do advance off as a married couple objective trying to raise their family in peace. Will Sampson’s often funny Taylor character is greatly appreciated, as is the downright putrid Julian Beck as the immoral Reverend Kane. Beck’s emaciated appearance and creepy accent do mighty to elevate this sequel from the realm of mediocrity. As for the spooky paranormal encounters, Nelson coughs up a mutated tequila worm, Robins battles his braces in the bathroom, and Williams shrieks her device through a couple more corpse scenes. Overall, “Poltergeist II” is well-behaved. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about “Poltergeist III.” Nancy Allen and Tom Skerritt have the all the allure of race bumps, Boyle grates as a giggling teenybopper airhead, O’Rourke is wooden as Carol Anne, and Rubinstein’s hammy performance attains myth proportions. The effects are acceptable, but the dialogue is clumsy and the pacing dull. What really killed the movie for me were the slack 1980’s fashion styles seen throughout the film.

Thanks (I assume) to MGM for releasing these films in their praiseworthy double feature collection. As usual, the only extras for both films are a trailer and scene selection menu. The disc presents both films in widescreen formats with friendly report transfers. I reflect it would have been nice to have a commentary track with the actors for the second film; I would have liked to hear Nelson and Williams talk about their roles. Two actresses associated with the “Poltergeist” franchise, Dominique Dunne and Heather O’Rourke, have since died. Dunne’s boyfriend murdered her after the first film and O’Rourke died during surgery. If you have seen the first film, you will probably want to perceive these two as well. Objective utilize low caution with “Poltergeist III,” a movie so abominable it has caused vulgar cranial trauma to those terrible souls who search for it.

I’ve been really disappointed at the plot MGM has treated the POLTERGEIST trilogy on DVD. First things first, the novel POLTERGEIST was a MEGA-hit grossing over 70 million in the US alone and eventually grossing over 150 million in the international BOX OFFICE. So it’s handsome to say that MGM made ALOT of money on that particular film, so why is it that it was given shoddy treatment when released on DVD? It was released only with a theatrical trailer as an EXTRA. The first sequel, POLTERGEIST 2 was a decent-sized hit in 1986 grossing over 40 million in the US alone and let’s not forget that the Special Effects were nominated for an OSCAR. Again, this film was released only with a theatrical trailer as an EXTRA. The least succesful film of the series was POLTERGEIST 3 which opened in the top 5 the first week but went downhill after that. However the film does have a CULT and fanatical following - many (dare I say it) have liked it even more than the unique to the awe of “unusual” POLTERGEIST loyalist. Again, it is presented along with P2 with only a theatrical trailer as a bonus. Why is MGM being so stingy? ? Especially when other dread movies that weren’t as well-liked are being released in awesome DVD packaging and loaded with extras.

That said, I must say that I’m satisfied to sight both of these movies FINALLY released on DVD. Despite the LACK OF EXTRAS they are both presented in WIDESCREEN format and the report quality on both films is Proper. Movies that are heavy in special effects need to be seen WIDESCREEN because you realize how considerable you DON’T glimpse when it’s formatted to fit your T.V veil. This is specially evident in P2. Let’s honest hope that MGM decides to re-release these films in a more deserving DVD package.

POLTERGEIST 2 was originally released in 1986 and did glowing great business at the BOX OFFICE. Although many dismissed it as unbiased another “pointless” sequel, it has stood the test of time due to it’s interpret (and spectacular) special effects and the performance of a very talented actor named Julian Beck who gives one of the creepiest performances EVER in a terror movie. Although he does not derive remarkable cloak time, the character of REVEREND KANE will send chills up your spine especially during the scene in which Craig T Nelson and the evil Minister have a few words on the patio of the family’s Arizona home. Kane’s demeaner changes from well-behaved to absolutely menacing. Deplorable emanates from his contemplate and if you awe easily, he will burn a permanent image of grotesqueness and alarm in your sub conscious. Truly eerie. Other highlights include the now horrible VOMIT CREATURE scene and the hilarious (but stunning) BRACES scene.

POLTERGEIST 2:The Other Side is a spectacular and creepy excursion into the supernatural. It may not be as salubrious as the fresh but it does have a darker, more menacing atmosphere than it’s predessesor and it moves at a faster budge.

POLTERGEIST 3, as previously mentioned was the only film in the franchise that did not RAKE in the Great BUCKS but has since it’s release in 1988, obtained a staunch following. P3 is a Savor IT or Disfavor IT type of experience. Those who disapprove it concept it as an INSULT to the novel and curse the film for existing (I always laugh at the plot it’s so unfairly crucified by lover’s of the novel. Was the new POLTERGEIST THAT Edifying that any movie that pretends to equal it IS STONED TO DEATH?? Whatever!) Others however, relish it for what it is- an imaginative ghost yarn region in an unconventional setting and with some very creepy and inventive mirror effects. I give P3 alot of credit for trying something novel and steering the series in a unusual direction. The Special effects are quite valid. They were filmed live mechanically and it does give the film a rather GHOSTLY and MYSTERIOUS atmosphere. Anyone who states today’s CGI effects eye better are sadly inaccurate. Computer Generated Special Effects gape suitable in a fantasy element such as The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter etc, but it has no state in a fright movie. I have said this before and I’ll say it again, CGI effects makes today’s apprehension movies gaze like video games and cartoons. They’re objective not scary and I know many dismay movie buffs will agree. I’m starting to loose hope with today’s alarm films. I have yet to eye a Expedient, SCARY movie ( I consider THE RING was the last scary movie that I actually liked) . Getting help to P3, the mechanical effects are creative, imaginative, ingenious and quite fun. There are no floating phantasms or monsters like the earlier films but you do collect fingers poking out of mirrors, a frozen swimming pool, a breathing door, a ghostly mist freezing everything in it’s path and a improbable and slimy BIRTH scene. POLTERGEIST 3’s main flaw however is in it’s old and unsatisfying climax. Especially when compared to the original’s nail-biting and gorgeous climax and even POLTERGEIST 2’s surreal, fantasy inspired ending. However, we now know that this was due to Heather O Rourke’s untimely passing before the film wrapped. Gary Sherman who didn’t want to continue filming without Heather, had to re-write the ending and a body double (or “dummy”- I can’t remember which one) was traditional in Heather’s region. So if the ending feels rushed and uninspired- it was but P3 does disappear along at a astronomical sprint up until that final frame. And one final trace to P3 haters- give the film a demolish. Many will agree that P3 doesn’t even reach cessation to the novel but not many alarm movies do- Let’s not forget that the Scare GENRE only has a few movies that are considered Proper CLASSICS. And POLTERGEIST 3 looks quite marvelous especially when compared to the other GA-ZILLION dismay movies released throughout the 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s- most of which were brainless slasher fares that had nothing more than excess violence and nudity on demonstrate. The POLTERGEIST films never stooped down to that level. And I have shown P3 to several of my friends and family members and many of them have enojoyed it and YES recent POLTERGEIST fans, I know this may sound hard to contain but many of them have liked it EVEN MORE than the Speilberg/Hooper classic. Even my picky 15 year aged niece states it’s the “BEST IN THE SERIES” and has watched it at least 10 times.

Anyone wanting to add 2 enjoying and quite horrible films to their DVD collection should fetch this MGM double feature. Although lacking in EXTRAS, the films peruse and sound Mountainous and you can’t beat the ticket. Let’s honest hope MGM releases these films in a more splendid and satisfying DVD. They’re haunting additons to a CLASSIC CHILLER.

I himmed and hawed about purchasing the Carson DVD package. I always loved Johnny’s anniversary shows where he would fracture out conventional clips from over the years along with the highlights of the year fair ended. So the package seemed intringing, but I decided to rent first. Satisfactory decision.

It is not that the dispute of the shows is dreadful. Far from it. It’s objective woefully short on material to elaborate the rather steep pricetag of a 3 disc situation. Idea that a lot of the tapes from the early years were destroyed years ago, there calm had to be over 20 years of material to achieve together several more hours. Instead, there is a “Best of the 60s/70s”, “Best of the 70s/80s” and “Best of the 80s/90s” segment, each about 45 minutes each. Many of the classics are here (the Ed Ames hatchet throw, George Gobel’s brown shoes joke, the marmoset using Johnny’s head as a restroom, Jimmy Stewart’s poem about his dog Bo, even a very laughable intro of future president Clinton), but there had to be more. There were no Floyd R. Turbo (who I mediate the first upright fly militant) bits nor was my current Carnac the Glorious moment included (the retort is Sis-Boom-Bah, the question: What sound does an exploding sheep accomplish) . The latter omission is spellbinding because I seem to seize Carson saying at one time that that bit garned the biggest laugh in the show’s history.

There’s also Carson’s last shows, which I actually already have on tape, so other than a better relate, it doesn’t do it for me. There’s also a note from 1982 when Johnny went wait on home to Nebraska to visit broken-down hangouts and friends that was bewitching.

In summary, some gigantic moments, but there should have been more!

As one of the millions that sorely miss the wit and wisdom of Johnny Carson, I was especially gay to receive this “best of” DVD collection. The three DVD’s feature the best moments from the demonstrate - divided by decade - from the 60’s through the 90’s, and also include the complete second-to-last expose (with Bette Midler and Robin Williams) and the final note, along with a documentary on Johnny I had never seen before. The remastering quality is vast. There is a fun minute short film called “Disaster Johnny”, and one of the most arresting things about the DVD’s are the ISO CAMS, that allow you to choose the camera angles to belief some of the programs. You can even concept scenes from Johnny’s perspective. The menu options are terrific, and the packaging very deluxe. If you are a fan of classic television, this is a stout addition to your library - and I concept to send them as gifts to family members I know miss Johnny too.

The critics don’t like it for the most share, but I really had a noble time. Flyboys won’t accept any awards, but it clear entertained my packed theater. People laughed at most of the cramped jokes scattered throughout this long film. Clocking in at over two hours it is a bit too long and some of the dialogue is lacking, but the romance is handled well (unlike Pearl Harbor, thank God!), as are the many wonderful CGI dogfight scenes. If your bored one afternoon, you should check out Flyboys, otherwise objective wait for the DVD.

I have been looking forward to seeing this movie but became reluctant after reading the rather mediocre reviews it received from the so-called “experts”. I decided to ahead and, as usual, the “experts” got it all spoiled. FLYBOYS not only met my expectations, but also exceeded them.

I’m a grand history buff and am usually very disappointed with Hollywood’s rendition of historical events. For me, it really detracts from a movie when I scrutinize things like Sea Sparrow missile launchers on the deck of a destroyer in Pearl Harbor, or when William Wallace supposedly has a torrid affair with a Princess who was, in reality, only three years obsolete at the time of his death, and I expected to earn similar fault with this movie. I found no such errors here. The just life record was most legal, including such details as the lion which served as the mascot for the Escadrille LaFayette, the dented bullets which the flying aces had to sort through before each flight, and the fact that over one million allied soldiers lost their lives at Verdun.

Hollywood movie critics have a difficult time with proper stories. Proper life, especially when accurately presented, doesn’t always have the same flair as fictionalized accounts, and critics have given rather harsh reviews of the residence, totally missing so many details surrounding such things as camaraderie, respect and traumatic precise life emotions. And no, in staunch life, people don’t always live happily ever after and the hero doesn’t always breeze off into the sunset with his sweetheart.

Beyond the historical accuracy portrayed here, the film has sensational filming, particularly in the air battle scenes. The aerial views depict the miles of devastation of French countryside surrounding the trenches. The casting is more than adequate with particular mention going to Jean Reno as Capt. Thenault. James Franco also gives a sterling portrayal of American Ace Blaine Rawlings.

If you are a history lover, and particularly alive to, as I am, in the Large War, I hurry you to go and sight this movie. You will salvage it historically proper and yet able to bridge the gap into being an spirited movie. Remember that this is not some Hollywood enhanced notion of war, but rather an right depiction of the precise life events that surrounded the American pilots who became the Escadrille LaFayette. The critics got this one all contaminated. Surprise, surprise.

One of the best of Hitchcock (although as far as his films go, Hitch probably has the best track picture of any director living or lifeless) . This film is basically the recent “Fugitive” and follows splendid closely the position to his “The 39 Steps” from 1935 - a man is unsuitable for a CIA agent and is caught in a “deadly game of cat and mouse,” as it were. I Cherish the music and the visuals that initiate out the film - it makes me wish I had been alive to gawk it in a movie theater in the 50’s. And although this film is over 2 hours long, there’s no device you can be bored - the suspense is so intense you’ll be chewing your nails the whole time (I did the first time I saw it) . Cary Grant is obedient as always, James Mason plays one of the most immoral of Hitchcock’s villains (I would Worship to have this guy’s insist) and Eva Marie Saint looks beautiful and plays her fraction well. I also enjoyed seeing Martin Landau in an early role as one of James Mason’s henchmen and Jessie Royce Landis (the mother from “To Gather a Thief”) as Grant’s mother (although both were very advance the same age at the time) . And I like any film earn by Bernard Herrmann - this guy should have had a mantle covered with awards, but as luck would have it, most of his scores went not only un-awarded but un-nominated (as this one did) . By all means, if you don’t occupy it, take it up today - and by the draw, suitable job for FINALLY releasing it on DVD, MGM.

With this film, Alfred Hitchcock place out to top himself and derive befriend on top after the failure of VERTIGO; he did honest that. NORTH BY NORTHWEST is automatically a classic with the acting by Cary Grant (his fourth and final film with Hitchcock), Eva Maria Saint, James Mason, Leo G. Carroll (another one of Hithcock’s favorites), and young Martin Landau (in his film debut), the improbable area pieces (the UN execute, the cropduster sequence, and the climax atop Mt. Rushmore), Bernard Hermann’s music glean, and the classic work of the camera by the Master of Suspense. But this DVD’s extras really add to the film. It includes a documentary hosted by Saint (”Destination Hitchcock,” not “The Man in Lincoln’s Nose” as listed on this region), an audio commentary by screenwriter Ernest Lehman, two theatrical trailers (a standard trailer and one featuring Hitchcock), a TV Station, an isolated music audio track and the film itself remastered in Dolby 5.1 Audio and 1.66:1 widescreen anamorphic format. The only spot is it comes in a snap case like all Warners DVDs, not allowing a booklet with production notes. But this DVD is a must win, especially if you’re a fan of Hitch. It’s also a tag of interest for 007 fans (like myself) . This film brought about stare thrillers and you should compare the cropduster sequence in this film to the helicopter sequence in FROM RUSSIA WITH Adore.
